How Card & Ink Values Pokemon Card Collections

Card & Ink looks at Pokemon card collections practically: exact card identity, condition, demand, recent sold prices, liquidity, grading status, sealed-product condition and whether the collection suits direct purchase or consignment. A valuable collection is not always the largest one; it is usually the one with clear highlights, genuine cards and realistic market demand.

The main factors we consider

  • Exact card identity: card name, set, card number, language, rarity and variant matter. Two cards with similar artwork can be very different in value.
  • Condition: corners, edges, surface, centering, whitening, dents, creases and print lines all affect the likely selling route.
  • Raw or graded: graded cards need clear slab photos, grading company, grade and certificate number. Raw cards need front and back photos.
  • Recent sold prices: active asking prices are useful context, but completed sales are usually more important.
  • Demand: popular Pokemon, playable cards, illustration rares, promos, vintage cards and sealed products usually have stronger buyer interest.
  • Liquidity: some cards are valuable but slow to sell. That can make consignment more sensible than a quick direct offer.
  • Fit for Card & Ink: we focus on stock we can describe clearly, photograph properly, package safely and sell honestly.

Direct purchase vs consignment

A direct purchase can suit clean, liquid collections where the cards are easy to price and likely to sell consistently. Consignment can suit selected higher-value cards, graded cards, unusual items or collections where patient listing may produce a better result.

Why photos matter

Good photos reduce guesswork. For raw cards, front and back photos help us check identity and condition. For graded cards, slab photos and certificate numbers help confirm the exact item. For sealed products, photos should show seals, corners, dents, tears and any shelf wear.

Condition language

If you are unsure what terms like near mint, lightly played or moderately played mean, read the Pokemon Card Condition Guide. Condition does not guarantee a future grading result, but it helps buyers and sellers discuss the card more clearly.

What we do not do

  • We do not guarantee future card values.
  • We do not guarantee third-party grading results.
  • We do not offer standalone valuation-only or appraisal-only work as a public service.
  • We do not offer card cleaning as a standalone service.

Card cleaning is only available as an optional sale-prep add-on for suitable raw cards that Card & Ink has accepted to sell or consign. The price is GBP 5 per card.

How to send a collection for review

  1. Photograph the strongest cards first, including clear front and back images.
  2. Group graded cards separately and include certificate numbers where possible.
  3. Show sealed product condition, including corners and seals.
  4. Email the photos to info@cardandink.com with a short note about whether you prefer direct sale or consignment.

FAQ

Is this a free valuation service?

No. This page explains how Card & Ink thinks about collections that may be suitable for direct purchase or consignment. We do not offer standalone appraisal-only work as a public service.

Do sold prices always decide the offer?

No. Sold prices are important, but condition, fees, demand, risk, time to sell and fulfilment costs all matter.

Can lower-condition cards still be worth selling?

Yes. Lower-condition cards can still be desirable if they are vintage, popular, scarce, useful for set building or priced clearly for their condition.
